for everyone
The blurb: Malu Fernandez is this society journalist who writes for People Asia and the Manila Standard Today. Last year, she got into some trouble with her inappropriate comment about overseas filipino workers in a People Asia article named "From Boracay to Greece". She defended herself by saying it was meant to be a "tongue in cheek" kind of humour. People blogged and talked about her endlessly for sometime calling for her resignation from People Asia and the Manila Standard Today. Some even went as far as to call for a boycott on the publications she writes in.

The context: Lately, there's been some scandal in Manila about a few very visible socialites who call themselves or who people call "the Gucci Gang". There's a blog that's been recently put up by someone who was terribly wronged by a few notables within the circle. According to the blogger, he will write about the gang's dirty laundry until he gets back what he lost. Whether what he exposes about the people in that blog is true or not is irrelevant. The blog spread like wildfire. People who have equal dislike for that circle commented and wrote what the extra that they knew and personalities that had nothing to do with the original agenda got dragged in.

Malu Fernandez was not one of those personalities that got dragged in. But someone did refer her to read the blog. So the other day (March 10) she came out with an article called "The problem with blogging..." Read article here

My reaction: I think she's still bitter about the People Asia thing. I also think she should start running. Besides from the angry netizens that she's sure to encounter due to faulty arguments and judgemental statements, saying that backstabbing may be ingrained in the Filipino culture can't bode well for her.

But then again, if people did boycott her, then nobody would've read the article. So, what's the sound of one hand clapping?
